How it began

It started with a day dream

Markus Ferny isn’t entirely sure when Ferny’s World first appeared in his head.

He was just staring into the distance with his normal blank expression when a rather odd thought came to mind.

What would happen if a turkey went around helping out (or at least trying to)?

He'd obviously need help. What animal is known for its cunningness, bravery and strength. A gerbil, of course.

Quite frankly, after that it started to get a little out of hand...

Escape!

Not satisfied with rolling around in Markus' brain, they started to escape into the real world

The only sensible thing was to trap them in books.

To be honest, it's all got a bit out of control.

Welcome to Ferny’s World.

This website is our attempt to keep track of what’s escaped so far.

Ferny’s World is a growing collection of original illustrated children’s stories filled with unlikely heroes, ridiculous situations and adventures that don’t always go according to plan.

The stories are written primarily for children aged 4–8, but with plenty to enjoy for the grown-ups reading along too.

So who is Markus Ferny?

Markus Ferny writes the stories and attempts to maintain some sort of order over Ferny’s World.

This has not gone particularly well.

Tortilla keeps bumbling into situations. Paco is obsessed with using clever words that Tortilla doesn't quite understand. And no-one can explain the squirrel (and at this point Markus Ferny is scared to ask).

Markus drinks a lot of tea, loves a biscuit or twelve and evidently thinks a lot about turkeys and gerbils.

Still escaping

There’s more to come…

New characters continue to appear. New stories are turning up.

And there are reports that some of them may be attempting to leave Ferny’s World altogether.
